Trudon: tradition and signature scent

The Maison Trudon is one of the historic leaders in scented candles. Its creations combine wax craftsmanship, design, and sophisticated fragrance compositions. Trudon candles explore different fragrance families—from woods and flowers to spicier or resinous accords—to create very distinct atmospheres across its collections.

Baobab Collection: Design and Large Formats

Baobab Collection combines home fragrance with interior design through exquisitely crafted glass containers and often generous sizes. The fragrances can be floral, woody, amber, or spicy, with a scent diffusion designed to complement both a living room and a larger space, depending on the size chosen.

Acqua di Parma: candles with Italian accents

The Acqua di Parma candles embody the brand’s luminous and refined aesthetic. Citrus fruits, flowers, and Mediterranean accords are recurring sources of inspiration for its home fragrances. They are particularly well-suited for those seeking a fresh, elegant atmosphere that blends effortlessly into various interiors.

Carrière Frères: botanical ingredients take center stage

Carrière Frères develops candles with a botanical approach, often centered on an easily identifiable ingredient or plant. The brand works primarily with 100% plant-based wax.

The Santal candle by Carrière Frères highlights Santalum Album in a composition centered on this woody note. Its soft, warm, and enveloping character is particularly well-suited for a living room, bedroom, or a cozy, relaxing atmosphere.

The Tomato candle by Carrière Frères offers a more vegetal and original interpretation, centered on the tomato. This scent brings a green, fresh, and botanical facet that offers a change from more classic floral or gourmand accords.

Criteria for Choosing a Scented Candle

The fragrance family is the first criterion. If you prefer warm, cozy atmospheres, opt for sandalwood, vanilla, amber, or spices. For a fresher atmosphere, choose citrus, aromatic herbs, or green notes.

The size of the room should also be taken into account. A small candle may be sufficient for a bedroom or office, while a larger container is often better suited for a large living room.

Finally, the design of the glass, the wax composition, the quality of the wick, and the price can all influence your choice based on your priorities.

Tips for Even Burning

When using the candle for the first time, let the wax melt long enough to reach the edges of the container, if the manufacturer’s instructions allow it. This helps ensure a more even burn surface.

Before each new use, check the length of the wick and trim it if necessary. A wick that is too long can produce a flame that is too large or black smoke. Never leave a lit candle unattended, and always follow the maximum burn time specified by the manufacturer.

FAQ: Everything You Need to Know About Scented Candles

Which Scented Candle Should You Choose for a Living Room?

Woody, amber, spicy, or vanilla scents are particularly well-suited for a living room. For a brighter atmosphere, citrus or floral scents can also be a good choice.

Which scented candle should you choose for a bedroom?

Soft scents like sandalwood, rose, cotton, or certain light floral notes are often suitable for a bedroom. Opt for moderate scent diffusion in small spaces.

How long does a scented candle last?

The burn time depends on the weight of the wax, the diameter of the container, the wick, and how the candle is used. For example, Carrière Frères’ 185-gram Sandalwood and Tomato candles are rated for approximately 40 to 45 hours of burn time.

Should you trim the wick before each use?

It is generally recommended to check and trim the wick before relighting the candle. A wick that is too long can cause a large flame or smoke.

Is vegetable wax always better?

Not necessarily. The quality of a candle depends on its overall formulation, the wick, the fragrance, and the product design. Vegetable wax may offer certain advantages, but it alone is not enough to determine the quality of the candle.

Does a scented candle always contain essential oils?

No. A candle can be scented with various fragrance ingredients without necessarily containing essential oils. You should check the product’s ingredients list to verify this.

How long can a candle be left burning?

It depends on each brand’s recommendations. It’s important to follow the maximum burn time indicated on the product and never leave a candle burning unattended.

How can you prevent a candle from producing black smoke?

Keep the wick at the proper length and avoid placing the candle in a draft. If black smoke appears, blow out the candle, then trim the wick before relighting it once the wax has cooled.

Can you reuse a candle jar?

It depends on the container and the brand’s recommendations. Some glass jars can be cleaned and repurposed as decorative items after use, provided that wax residue has been properly removed.
